Dr. Subrata Kundu is an assistant professor of chemistry at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD), New Delhi, India. Before joining IIT Delhi as a full-time faculty member in December 2019, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow in Professor H. W. Roesky’s research group at the University of Göttingen, focusing on low-valent main-group chemistry. After three years in Germany, Subrata joined Professor Manners’s group at the University of Victoria, Canada, where he worked on inorganic polymers and catalysis with main-group substrates.
Presently, he is working in the area of low-valent main-group chemistry. Currently, seven Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) students are working in his research group. The main goal of his research is to develop metal-free catalysts using p-block elements, which are more abundant, less expensive, and less toxic compared to traditional transition metals. His scientific contributions have resulted in more than 50 research papers in prestigious international journals (ACS, RSC, Wiley), and his current h-index is 22. Dr. Kundu has delivered several invited lectures at international conferences and has received research grants from various funding agencies.
Dr. Kundu has also contributed to his institute in various capacities, including serving as the departmental timetable in charge, setting up the CRF synthesis lab, overseeing glass blowing, serving as the president of the Chemical Society at IIT Delhi (2021–2023), and being a member of the department-level safety committee and the DRC committee.
