Shatha Kaassamani is an Assistant Professor of Materials Science at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi – Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Kaassamani earned her Ph.D. in Optics and Photonics from Université Paris-Saclay in 2020 and her Master’s degree in Physics from the American University of Beirut (AUB) in 2017. Her doctoral research focused on high-order harmonic generation in semiconductor crystals, an ultrafast nonlinear optical process in which intense laser fields generate light at frequencies much higher than that of the incident radiation. Her work contributed to the understanding of ultrafast light–matter interactions in solid-state materials.
Following her Ph.D., Dr. Kaassamani joined the Center for Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies (C2N) in France as a postdoctoral researcher, where she investigated nanogap optical resonators and epsilon-near-zero photonic modes. During this period, she developed expertise in nanofabrication, cleanroom processing, optical setup design, and experimental characterization.
In 2023, she joined the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the United States as a postdoctoral researcher. There, she designed, fabricated, and experimentally characterized metasurfaces for flat-optics applications spanning the ultraviolet and near-infrared spectral ranges.
Her research lies at the intersection of nanophotonics and materials science, with a focus on developing advanced optical materials and nanostructures for renewable and sustainable energy technologies. Her expertise comprises optical system design, nanofabrication, and optical and materials characterization.
Dr. Kaassamani has a strong publication record and has presented her research at numerous international conferences. She is also an experienced educator and mentor, having served as a Graduate Assistant at AUB, where she instructed physics laboratory courses, tutored students, and provided academic mentorship.
