Dr. Prapanch Nair is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Mechanics at IIT Delhi. His research lies at the intersection of fluid mechanics, multiphase flows, computational mechanics, and scientific computing, with a focus on developing computational methods for complex engineering systems.
His research interests include multiphase and interfacial flows, droplet and wetting phenomena, bubble dynamics, particulate and porous-media flows, computational fluid dynamics, and meshless and particle-based methods. He is also interested in advanced manufacturing, fabrication, and material-processing systems, where coupled fluid flow, heat transfer, phase change, and multiphysics phenomena play an important role. His work combines fundamental mechanics with high-performance scientific computing, including parallel and GPU-accelerated methods, as well as emerging machine-learning approaches for scientific computing.
A significant aspect of his research is the development of computational tools that bridge fundamental research and engineering applications. His work includes the development of meshless multiphysics solvers and computational frameworks for problems such as free-surface flows, shallow-water dynamics, and multiphase transport. He is particularly interested in democratizing computer aided engineering, making advanced computational methods efficient, accessible, and useful for real-world engineering problems.
Dr. Nair is also involved in engineering education and outreach, with interests in computational thinking, scientific programming, and the integration of artificial intelligence and physics-based modeling in engineering. His broader objective is to develop new computational approaches that connect mechanics, computation, and emerging engineering technologies.
