Biosketch
Abdellatif Ait Lahcen is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi–Abu Dhabi (IITD-AD), United Arab Emirates. His research integrates analytical chemistry, materials science, and bioengineering to develop advanced sensing technologies for biomedical, environmental, and point-of-care applications.
He earned his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Hassan II University of Casablanca, Morocco (2018), where he developed electrochemical sensors for emerging pollutants. During his doctoral studies, he also conducted research at ICN2 in Barcelona, Spain; the University of the Western Cape in Cape Town, South Africa; and the University of Cádiz in Cádiz, Spain.
Before joining IITD-AD, Dr. Ait Lahcen was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Center for Bioelectronics at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, United States. There, he developed flexible and printed electrochemical platforms for therapeutic drug monitoring, with particular emphasis on molecularly imprinted polymers and laser-induced graphene sensors. Previously, he was a Postdoctoral Associate at Weill Cornell Medicine, Cornell University in New York City, United States, where he contributed to soft robotic sensor arrays integrated with flexible electronics for cardiac mapping. He also conducted postdoctoral research at KAUST in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia, developing micro- and nanofabricated sensing platforms for environmental monitoring, food safety, plant analysis, and clinical diagnostics.
His current research focuses on molecularly imprinted polymers, electrochemical and optical sensors, laser-induced graphene, nanomaterials, nanozymes, and flexible, wearable, and point-of-care technologies. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, contributed to several book chapters, and is an inventor on a United States patent. His distinctions include the Young Scientist Award at Euroanalysis XX and Best Oral Presentation awards at NanoBioTech 2025 and the Doctoral Day of Hassan II University of Casablanca. He also serves the scientific community as a guest editor, doctoral thesis examiner, scientific committee member, and reviewer for journals in analytical chemistry, sensors, nanotechnology, and materials science.
